Dr Matt Gibney is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician who graduated from Monash University. He completed his early medical training at Austin Health and Northern Health before undertaking advanced training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Eastern Health and the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Matt currently works in Respiratory Medicine and General Medicine at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he is also actively involved in clinical research focusing on severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and lung cancer. He is committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centred care and enjoys helping patients navigate both common and complex respiratory and sleep conditions.
His clinical interests include sleep disorders, lung cancer diagnosis, bronchoscopy and the assessment and management of airways disease, including asthma, COPD and bronchiectasis. Matt takes a practical and collaborative approach to patient care, working closely with patients and referring doctors to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Interests Outside Medicine
Before pursuing medicine, Matt competed as a distance runner at a national level in Australia and within the US collegiate system. He remains passionate about sport and enjoys discussing all things athletic, from elite competition through to weekend participation. He is particularly interested in helping athletes of all abilities manage respiratory and sleep conditions that may impact performance, recovery and overall wellbeing.
