Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is a procedure performed by our specialists where a small flexible camera is inserted into the lungs via the nose or mouth.
A bronchoscopy may be performed as part of the investigation for respiratory conditions and can be requested by your treating specialists who have links to major private and public hospitals.
A bronchoscopy is a day procedure, with a combination of local anaesthetic and sedation provided by an anaesthetist.
Samples can be taking including washings (with sterile saline solution) from the airways as well as the alveoli (air sacs). Where required, biopsies can be taken.
Our specialists are also trained in advanced bronchoscopic techniques such as linear EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound), allowing sampling of lymph glands within chest, allowing diagnosis to be made without the need for a surgical procedure.
